The day before the festival opens, HLSCC students take the stage and the first book of the week is launched. Free and open to the public.

HLSCC students (COM 100, with Debra Hodge) compete to deliver the best spoken-word rendition on the theme: Mouth Open, Story Jump Out. Judged by Derron Sandy and Safiyya Chance (TBD).
