  • Gevonie Percival , Mental Health Activist

Gevonie Percival considers herself to have a bohemian heart, one that loves the wonders of the universe and lives whimsically.

Gevonie is currently employed at the Community Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services as an administrative assistant, however her love and passion for serving others have influenced her decision to pursue a career in addiction and is currently furthering her education in alcohol and drug counseling. Mrs. Percival is a zealous mental health activist and fervently advocates against stigma and discrimination.

During her childhood, her father introduced her to the magical world of books, and she has been a bibliophile ever since. A perfect day for her is one made of rainy days, a cup of tea, and a good book. In 2021, she formed A Novel Bunch Book Club, a safe space for young women to share their fondness for reading. Their motto, “connecting readers and changing lives” accurately depicts her book club as she and her members contribute their time and resources to improving literacy in the Virgin Islands by hosting Storytime events, reading to the schools, and volunteering in community activities. Her love for reading is evident in everything she does, and she always encourages those around her to get into the habit of reading.

Gevonie is grateful for the simple pleasures in life, like the blue skies and sunsets. Her ambition in life is to leave everyone she meets better than how she met them even with just a simple smile. Her favorite poem is “If I Can Stop One Heart from Breaking by Emily Dickinson. She hopes to be remembered for her kindness and her pursuit of bettering human lives.
